Course Structure

Total Course Volume: 200 academic hours

  • 80 hours of classroom/online instruction (via Microsoft Teams)
  • 120 hours of independent study

Target Group and Admission Requirements

This course is intended for:

  • Adults working or planning to work in international companies.
  • Secondary school pupils and students aiming to acquire professional oral and written English communication skills at the B2 level.

Entry Requirement: Proficiency in English at B1 or B2 level, assessed through an entry test and/or interview. Registration and application submission are mandatory.


Objective

To achieve B2 level proficiency in professional English communication.


Language of Instruction

The course is delivered in English.


Learning Outcomes

Listening Comprehension:

Learners understand professional topics in radio and TV broadcasts, interviews, talk shows, and films. They grasp the main ideas of complex spoken discourse on abstract or concrete topics, including detailed presentations and lectures on familiar themes.

Reading Comprehension:

Learners can analyse long and complex texts created for various purposes (news articles, reports, reviews, literary texts). They apply reading strategies and reference materials when needed. They can extract relevant information and summarise business reviews.

Speaking:

Learners are able to produce clear, detailed spoken texts on work-related topics, explain their opinions, and assess different viewpoints. They can deliver structured presentations and participate actively in business discussions, expressing and justifying opinions.

Writing:

Learners are capable of writing professional summaries of articles, books, or broadcasts. They can compose clearly structured argumentative reports, opinion pieces, and formal letters, presenting pros and cons of various ideas.

Teaching Methods

The course focuses on spoken communication and the vocabulary required for daily professional life.

New skills are practiced in lessons and through workplace simulations.

Vocabulary is reinforced through dialogues and real-life situations.

All four key skills are developed: listening, reading, speaking, and writing — along with communicative etiquette.

Learners also benefit from enhanced confidence and enjoyment during the learning process.


Learning Environment

Each classroom is equipped with a computer with internet access, a whiteboard, a CD/DVD player, and speakers.

All facilities meet occupational health and safety standards and provide a well-lit, comfortable learning space.


Instructor Qualifications

All instructors have a university degree (MA or equivalent), certified teacher qualifications, and experience teaching English to adults.


Independent Work

During self-study, learners deepen their professional vocabulary, read business texts, write reports and emails, analyse articles from Äripäev and Financial Times, complete exercises, and use business English dictionaries.

Learners compile reports and receive instructor feedback.


Assessment and Completion

Language proficiency is assessed according to the CEFR B2 level.

The final assessment includes an oral exam and a written test (covering listening, reading, speaking, and writing).

Certificate of Completion is awarded if the learner:

  • Attends at least 75% of lessons
  • Scores at least 60% on the final test

Others receive a Certificate of Participation specifying the hours completed.
