Course Structure

Total duration: 200 academic hours

  • 80 academic hours of instructor-led lessons (in-class or via Microsoft Teams)
  • 120 academic hours of independent study

Target Group & Entry Requirements

Target group:

This course is designed for young learners (including school pupils) and adults who wish to achieve the C1 level in English or prepare for the CAE examination.

Entry requirements:

English language proficiency at B2 level (to be assessed through an interview and a placement test). Registration and completion of the application form are required.


Course Objective

To achieve C1 level in English, enabling fluent and confident communication in everyday, academic, and professional contexts.

Learning Outcomes

Listening

Understands long and complex spoken texts, including subject-specific discussions, lectures, and debates. Can interpret nuance, slang, and idiomatic expressions, and follow content in various registers and complexities.

Reading

Comprehends sophisticated texts in both formal and informal registers, including fiction, reports, analysis, and instructions. Can identify and extract key information.

Speaking

Delivers clear, detailed explanations, presentations, descriptions, and justifications. Actively participates in discussions and debates, using both formal and informal language flexibly and expressively.

Writing

Produces well-structured texts, essays, and both formal and semi-formal letters. Summarises information, supports arguments with examples, and applies a range of stylistic techniques.

  • Making a splash (newspaper language)

5 Unit

  • Behind the glamour (word building, prefixes with multiple meanings)
  • The young ones (verb-noun collocations)
  • Priorities (work expressions)

6 Unit

  • A curious science (words with different but related meanings)
  • But is it ethical? (word pairs)
  • Short story radio (dramatic verbs)

7 Unit

  • Getting away with it (phrases with get)

Teaching Methodology

A communicative approach is applied. At the C1 level, particular emphasis is placed on writing, translation, listening, reading, and independent study. Vocabulary is acquired through the use of real-life language contexts. All core skills are developed: reading, listening, speaking, and writing.


Learning Environment

Modern classrooms equipped with internet-connected computers, whiteboards, CD/DVD players and speakers. All facilities comply with safety standards and are well-lit and comfortable. Online lessons are delivered via Microsoft Teams.


Instructor Qualifications

All instructors hold a university degree (MA or equivalent), teaching qualifications, and relevant experience in teaching English to adults and young learners.


Independent Study

Independent study plays a key role. Students complete written assignments, read fiction and media texts, prepare presentations, complete unfinished classwork, expand vocabulary, and write essays and project work – both individually and in groups.


Assessment & Completion Criteria

C1 proficiency is assessed through a final oral interview and a written test that includes listening, reading, speaking, and writing tasks.

Certificate awarded upon:

  • Attendance of at least 75% of lessons
  • Successful completion of the final test (minimum 60%)

Participants who do not meet the criteria will receive a certificate of attendance.
